Lucy Haughey, a Scots Come Dine With Me winner, was fined £420 for hurling racist abuse at her neighbor, Roman Kavur, in Glasgow, in March 2024. Haughey called Kavur a "foreign c***" and also kicked and damaged his front door. This incident took place just after Haughey had won the hit Channel 4 show in 2017. She has a history of legal issues, including having sex with a 15-year-old boy in the past and being convicted of stalking a social worker named Shannon Low. Haughey was also fined £515 and ordered to do 234 hours of unpaid work earlier this year for stalking another woman named Joanne Bell.
Haughey was due to return to Glasgow Sheriff Court to be sentenced for her latest offence but her lawyer stated that she could not travel due to financial difficulties. As a result, the matter was dealt with in her absence. Sheriff Collette Gallagher imposed a one-year non-harassment order against Haughey for her victims in addition to the fine. The trial revealed that Haughey initially got along with Kavur when he and his partner moved into their flat. However, tensions arose, leading to the incident where Haughey hurled racist abuse at Kavur.
During the trial, Kavur stated that he heard shouting near his property and discovered Haughey intoxicated and shouting racial abuse at him. He called the police after Haughey kicked his front door, causing damage. Haughey represented herself at the trial and denied the allegations, claiming that the incident did not occur. Police officer Josh Kay confirmed that he arrested Haughey at her home after the altercation. Haughey argued that the damage to the door was not submitted into evidence after seven months, which Kavur agreed with. She also claimed that the couple’s allegations were lies and malicious.
Haughey’s history of legal issues includes the previous convictions for having sex with a minor, stalking social worker Shannon Low, and making abusive comments about Miss Low in a social media video. She was banned from contacting Miss Low for 10 years. Haughey has faced fines and community service orders for her past offenses. Despite her legal troubles, Haughey won the hit Channel 4 show Come Dine With Me in 2017. The recent incident involving racist abuse towards her neighbor resulted in fines, unpaid work, and a non-harassment order being imposed against her.
Despite Haughey’s denials, the court found her guilty of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner which was racially aggravated. This incident added to her history of legal troubles, including previous convictions for similar offenses. Haughey’s actions towards her neighbor, Roman Kavur, resulted in financial penalties, community service, and a non-harassment order being issued against her. The court heard testimonies from both parties, with Kavur recounting the incident where Haughey was intoxicated and hurled racial abuse at him. Haughey’s lawyer cited financial difficulties as the reason for her absence during sentencing, indicating ongoing challenges for the Come Dine With Me winner.
