Farm Foods has reduced the price of its Maltesers advent calendar by 80%, selling it for just 49p. The calendar contains different shapes of Malteser milk chocolate, including a Malteser reindeer for December 24. This deal is only available at the Farm Foods branch in Wolverhampton, where the calendar normally sells for £2.45. Other retailers are selling it for higher prices, with Tesco pricing it at £2.75 and Asda at £2.50. Some vendors on Amazon are even selling it for over £8, making Farm Foods’ offer a significant bargain.
Sun reporter Lynsey Hope taste-tested various advent calendars released this Christmas, with Boots’ £21 Pork Crackling version ranking at the top with a perfect 10/10 score. This calendar features 24 different flavours of crackling, including Pigs in Blankets, Salt Vinegar, Low & Slow BBQ, Black Pepper, Perfectly Salted, and Marvellous Maple. On the other hand, Asda’s £6 Swizzles Sweet Shop Advent Calendar received a lower score of 5/10. The assortment of classic sweet shop flavours it offers, such as Refresher Bars, Squashies, Love Hearts, Drumstick, Fizzers, and Parma Violets, was enjoyable but did not justify the price tag.
Several other advent calendars also received high ratings in the taste test. Ocado’s Bonne Maman Jam Advent Calendar, priced at £28, scored an impressive 9/10 for its assortment of mini jams and preserves. Flapjackery’s gluten-free advent calendar, priced at £65, also scored the same rating for its 24 different artisan flapjacks. For those who prefer a boozy advent calendar, there are plenty of beer versions available on the market. Beer52’s version was highly rated by The Sun’s Lucy Atkins and Kieran Ahuja for containing a variety of beer from 24 breweries across seven countries.
To save money on Christmas shopping, consumer reporter Sam Walker suggests limiting the amount of presents by organizing a Secret Santa among inner circles. Planning ahead and buying Christmas presents for the following year in the January sales can also help save money. Shopping in Boxing Day sales or via outlet stores like Amazon Warehouse and Office Offcuts can also lead to significant savings. Using price comparison sites is recommended to ensure that you are getting the best deals and not overspending.
