An Australian model, Emma Van Der Hoek, is(via TikTok) facing backlash for having her phone stolen twice in three months in London, sparking calls for her to be returned. Emma tried to chase after the police, but the owner of one phone(formerly associated with her) ran away, leaving her in fear. She wrote on TikTok, “My phone got stolen yesterday in London!!! This is the second time in three months that this has happened – all within my ‘safe’ neighborhood.” However, the video was at nearly 500,000 views and generated a lot of online backlash. Emma claimed that only 0.8% of thefts were reported as ‘person apart from the victim,’ suggesting many had no real reason to commit the crime. The government has released updates on this case, which took place in the City of London.
