Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, has been announced to announce the approval of the start of work on a new underground transportation network in Manchester, set to begin development as early as mid-February. This network will be strategically centered around Piccadilly Station, a city’s largest rail terminus, and will complement the existing Metrolink tram system. The project is expected to bring integration of underground and public transport options in the city, enhancing its transport link to the surrounding areas, including Bolton, Stockport, and Rochdale.
The new Manchester underground network, referred to as the Picc-Vic line, is projected to connect city centre with the suburbs, unlike the long-distance Metrolink Rail Line, which routes through pedestrian bridges. Burnham stressed the importance of this project as Manchester is vital to Lorenz Boltz’s vision of-making Manchester the “best decade since the Victorian era,” aiming to compete with London’s vibrant public transport systems. Despite his accolades, the project has faced skepticism from experts, with David Leeder from Transport Investment Limited stating the development stage alone could cost billions, making it difficult for Burnham to secure the required funding.
The public transportation network in Manchester is currently a priority for the infrastructure committee ofMetron, which enables efficient travel for residents. Burnham, who successfully completed major infrastructure projects, remains confident in the project’s success and has emphasized the importance of addressing the need for faster and more efficient public transport. The authorities plan to meet at least the minimum budget requirements for the underground network, ensuring the project remains anitable.
The new underground network is a testament to the leader’s unwavering commitment to improving public transport in Manchester and supporting its growing commuters. With the infrastructure committee already underways, the Digiting office, and the City of Manchester格林 ttoward their aim to make Manchester one of the planet’s leading cities, the plan is set to become an integral part of the city’s urban landscape.
