The fast-food giant, McDonald’s, is implementing a menu change that will leave some milkshake enthusiasts disappointed. The Grimace Shake, a purple, blueberry-flavored concoction inspired by the brand’s iconic mascot, is being removed from UK menus on December 24th. The shake, which made its UK debut in August for a limited one-week run, enjoyed considerable popularity, mirroring its success in the United States. Its distinct purple hue and unique blueberry flavor, a departure from McDonald’s traditional strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla milkshake offerings, contributed to its viral status. Currently available across McDonald’s 1,450 UK locations, the Grimace Shake is priced slightly higher than standard milkshakes at £2.69 for a medium and £2.99 for a large. This limited-time offering presents a final opportunity for fans to indulge in the distinctive beverage before its departure.

McDonald’s menu has seen a flurry of additions and departures in recent months. November saw the introduction of the Chilli Double Cheeseburger to the saver menu, featuring two beef patties, cheese, onions, jalapenos, pickles, and spicy relish for £2.49. The festive season brought the debut of the Terry’s Chocolate Orange Pie, a novel addition to the Christmas menu. However, these limited-time offerings, including the Grimace Shake, will soon make way for new additions.

Starting January 6th, McDonald’s is introducing several new and returning items. These include the new Katsu Crispy or Grilled Wrap, available as a single item, part of a meal, or for a reduced price on Wednesdays. A new Milkyway McFlurry joins the dessert lineup, combining soft-serve ice cream with Milkyway chocolate stars, malt pieces, and chocolate sauce. The BBQ Ranch Stack Burger, featuring two beef patties, cheese, lettuce, bacon, crispy onions, ranch, and BBQ sauce, also makes its debut. Returning favorites include the McCrispy BBQ Smokehouse and Mozzarella Dippers. Pricing for these new additions ranges from £1.99 for the Wednesday wrap deal to £7.49 for a McCrispy BBQ Smokehouse meal.

The January menu update will see the departure of several current items. The limited-edition Terry’s Chocolate Orange Pie and Cheesy McCrispy will be removed. Even some returning favorites, like the Big Tasty and Big Tasty with Bacon, will be taken off the menu after their temporary comeback. This continuous cycle of menu updates keeps the offerings fresh and generates excitement among customers.

Despite the ever-changing menu, savvy customers can still find ways to save money at McDonald’s. Weekly promotions, accessible through the MyMcDonald’s app, offer discounted items every Monday. These offers, available until 11.59 pm on the day of release, require ordering through the app for collection. Past deals have included discounted nuggets, McMuffins, and more. Additionally, completing the feedback survey on McDonald’s receipts grants access to a code for a discounted Big Mac and fries combo, offering a consistent saving opportunity.

McDonald’s maintains a dynamic menu, with changes occurring approximately every six weeks. This frequent turnover introduces new flavors and brings back popular items for limited periods, creating a sense of anticipation and encouraging repeat visits. The cycle of additions and removals allows McDonald’s to cater to evolving tastes and maintain customer interest. While some items, like the Grimace Shake, might be missed by their dedicated fans, the constant influx of new offerings ensures there’s always something new to try. By leveraging the McDonald’s app and utilizing feedback surveys, customers can further enhance their dining experience with cost-saving opportunities.
