WANT to leave both your bathroom and your bank balance sparkling?

A recent survey suggests we spend more than £100 a year on cleaning products.

There’s no need to splash out on products. Ditch them and green up your cleaning methods with these ideas . . .

TRASH TO TREASURE: Instead of bathroom bin bags which cost about £2 a pack, reuse and recycle by lining bins with existing bags or the paper ones that fruit and veg come in from the supermarket. You can also reuse lined padded envelopes that can be pushed into the corners.

MAKE IT DAZZLE: If you’re on the last of your cream cleaner, stretch it by adding water and shaking. Another option is to cut the used toothpaste tube and use white toothpaste to remove bath marks.

A BIT OF ALL-WHITE: There’s no better cleaner than white vinegar. For around 50p a bottle, it has so many uses.

Dilute one part vinegar to three parts water and spray on taps to loosen limescale, spray on mirrors for a high shine and spray into shower trays to get rid of dirt and gunk that builds up.

RAGS TO RICHES: Keep old T-shirts and pyjamas. You can cut them up and use them to wipe down mirrors and your bath.

You can wash and reuse them which is good for the planet as well as your bank balance as it stops the need for buying endless packs of cloths that never last and end up in the bin.

SWEET SAVING: Has your bottle of soft drink gone flat? Leftover cola or lemonade can be poured down the loo and left overnight to leave the bowl sparkling.

MAKE-UP YOUR MARK: If you do your make-up over the sink or your partner does, you’ll know that mascara and foundation flecks can stain.
Did you know you can use a squirt of shaving cream to loosen stubborn make-up marks? Plus, it leaves the sink smelling great.
