A survey found that 57 percent of drinkers believe hangover symptoms worsen with age, and 46 percent say that headaches and stomach issues last longer than they did five years ago. Despite 71 percent of respondents having tried various hangover cures, 30 percent have not found one that works for them.

Dietitian Dr. Carrie Ruxton explains that eggs contain cysteine, an essential amino acid that helps reduce nausea and headaches by breaking down acetaldehyde, a by-product of alcohol metabolism. Eggs also provide high-quality protein that can help with appetite control, preventing individuals from reaching for high-calorie comfort foods later in the day. A spokesperson for British Lion Eggs, who commissioned the survey, emphasizes the nutrient-dense and cost-effective benefits of eggs as a recovery option for hangovers.

Among the top 10 hangover cures identified, the full English breakfast was the most popular choice, selected by 38 percent of respondents. Other popular options included strong black coffee, a bacon and egg sandwich, a banana, hot buttered toast, a burger, pizza from the night before, scrambled eggs on toast, a fried egg sandwich, and a cheese toastie. These choices reflect a variety of comfort foods that individuals turn to in an effort to alleviate hangover symptoms and recover from a night of drinking.

In addition to traditional hangover remedies, some celebrities have their own unique preferences for dealing with the aftermath of overindulging. Prince William, for example, reportedly prefers jellied eels as a hangover cure. The survey results highlight the prevalence of hangovers and the reliance on food as a means of mitigating symptoms. While hangovers can be unavoidable for many individuals, finding effective cures or remedies, such as a nutrient-dense breakfast featuring eggs, can help individuals recover and get back on track after a night of festive celebrations.
