The rainfall in Zhengzhou has become a serious threat as it sees the equivalent of a year’s average in just three days. As per the authorities, on Wednesday, 12 people died after the torrential rain flooded away from the subway in Zhengzhou, a central Chinese city.
A rescue unit
The passengers face some severe problems where they are struggling against a chest-high water level in a train carriage. Soldiers have been rescuing in the city of more than 10 million population in Henan province.
City officials in a Weibo post said that the city is facing a series of heavy and rare rainstorms, which has caused water to get stored in the metro trains and stations of Zhengzhou.
Nerve-shredding images
Some of the nerve-shredding images are being spread on social media showing the passengers contending with the fast rise of the water in the train carriage. According to the news reporters in that area, rescuers had to come and forcefully cut the coach’s roof to pull people to safety.
Other images showed some of the dramatic rescues of the citizens in Zhengzhou from the gushy torrents all over the streets.
Communication went down
The city is in such a state where the relatives outside the city are worried about the people and made anxious pleas to the web of China for any information as the communication has gone down. Some messages like the person can’t connect the phone, so he asked the officials if he gets any news of his parents being safe as they live on the second floor.
20m breach
The authorities have warned the Henan province as they are having the information where it states that floods will continue to trouble the region. The People’s Liberation Army’s regional unit had warned that the downpour of water had led to a 20-meter breach in the Yihetan dam in Luoyang. Luoyang is a city that has around seven million people, and the people are in danger as the dam might collapse at any time. The harsh rain with the flood might be enough to take over a dam.
The huge loss
The floods that occur annually during the rainy season in China have caused chaos and washed away the crops, roads, and houses. But over a decade now, the situation has worsened due to the dams that cut the connection between the lakes and rivers and disrupted the floodplain, which helped absorb the summer surge.
Scientists have warned about climate change that can cause more flooding worldwide with other increasing weather patterns. There might be fluctuations in the weather, and we can’t depend on it as climate change is causing a lot of trouble.
