Summer of Play is a popular family-friendly initiative hosted by The National Trust, designed to reinforce summer holidays with exciting outdoor activities for children. Across various locations, including Northumberland’s delaval hall, Wrexham’s Chirk Castle, and Worcester Hanbury Hall, families can enjoy a range of versatile and creative experiences. This summer, children and families will be able to participate in drop-in activities, including clown shows, recycled orchestra traditions, and crafting areas like playpunctuation zones and indoor book nooks. Each event is free to enter, and no advance booking is required.
The National Trust’s Summer of Play schedule includes events such as:
- Northumberland delaval Hall: host a pop-up clown talk, sensory spaces for storytelling, and a riddle station.
- Wrexham Chirk Castle: explore the castle’s gardens, gardens, traditionalendale castles, and methods of elevation, with outdoor activities like a ‘Big Play Adventure.’
- Worcehay Hanbury Hall: celebrate Victorian fete queens’ traditions with games like coconut shy, hoopla, and tin can alley.
- Half-Term Festivals: include magic-themed castles and ‘Book jungles’ combining games with storytelling, featuring famous festivals like the Disney heart of the Marches and royalstdlib gardens.
Also, young gardeners can join in the work, whether it’s harvesting produce or crafting with materials such as play blocks, bottle wheels, pool tiles, acting on banners, storytelling, or participating in a kite gym.
- Summer of Play 2023:
- A final opportunity to catch the king’s concert from 11am to 4pm at Quay House in Wrexham.
- Help set up a declassified museum and recreate old labs and悟ors in Hanbury Hall.
All activities are free, with no booking needed. Enjoy discovering new traditions and childhood memories!
