The highlight was learning the art of shucking oysters, a skill far more challenging than it appears, but with a rewarding prize – the opportunity to savor the freshest oysters, prepared with various toppings or simply enjoyed with the natural salinity of the lake.

The Tathra Hotel, perched atop cliffs overlooking the crashing waves, provided stunning views and a delightful selection of craft beers from its on-site microbrewery. A short drive from Tathra led me to the Pambula River, where I joined an Aboriginal Culture Kayak Tour, paddling through narrow waterways edged with shellfish-encrusted rocks. The Opera House, inspired by the sails of passing ships, hosts an array of performances, from classic plays to contemporary music acts like Fred Again. Even without attending a performance, a tour of this architectural masterpiece or a harbor boat cruise offers breathtaking views.
