SAVVY supermarket shoppers can save more money when stocking up on groceries.
According to Tesco, these simple tricks can help you save up to £1,543.
Research by the supermarket said half of shoppers visit three or more stores a month in an attempt to bag a bargain.
But Tesco said people that do this pay an extra £128.61 each month for unplanned items.
That amounts to 1,543 each year.
Only a third of people stick to their shopping list, with additional items costing on average £10.60 per visit.
The supermarket has revealed its top tips for cutting back on your weekly shopping bill, the Mirror reported.
Choose a low price supermarket
It might sound obvious, but you should pick a supermarket with the lowest prices in order to save money.
Do some research before you go to work out which stores are offering the cheapest deals.
Don’t go shopping when you’re hungry
You shouldn’t go shopping when you’re hungry if you want to cut your supermarket spending.
If you haven’t eaten, you could end up buying more than you planned.
Batch cooking
Batch cooking is a great way to reduce waste and save money.
It also means you’ll always have food ready on days when you just don’t feel like cooking.
Tesco said: “If you have the freezer space, cook batches of your family favourites and freeze them for those days when you don’t have time to cook from scratch.”

Planning your meals for the week can help you cut back on spending.
If you’ve got a plan you’ll hopefully make fewer impulse purchases when you’re browsing the aisles.
