Inside cheapest home on Zoopla costing £35k where your deposit would be £3,500

A TWO-bed house in Hartlepool is the CHEAPEST home on the market – and you’d only have to pay £3,500 for a deposit.

The cheap and cheerful property in the North East is located half a mile from Hartlepool station on Dean Street and is going for £35,000.

It is the best bargain listed on property portal Zoopla that buyers can currently bag and move into.

Zoopla’s cheapest house criteria excluded Help to Buy, shared ownership, leasehold properties and homes listed on auction websites.

It’s just over a tenth of the price of the average UK house price, which is £265,668 according to Land Registry data.

It comes as property prices have soared over the past year – up to £100,000 in some areas.

It’s meant many budding buyers have had to put their house search on hold after being priced out of a hot market.

The home has two bedrooms, one bathroom on the ground floor and a lounge.

It also has an open plan kitchen and dining area and a back garden too.

However, it doesn’t look like you get a driveway, so you might have to park up on the street.

According to Jones Estate Agents, who are marketing the property, it’s “considered ideal for a first time buyer”.

But while the cheap price tag might seem tempting for budding buyers looking to get on the property ladder, you might end up spending more to bring it up to date.

Some of the rooms are painted in bright colours – the kitchen is a bold red, the bathroom is lime green and the lounge is a striking blue.

The kitchen units could do with stripping out and modernising, as well as the bathroom.

However, the house is double glazed and comes with gas central heating, which means it should keep warmer in colder months and be cheaper to heat.

While the property doesn’t appear to be in too bad a condition, you should make sure to pay for a survey on the house.

This will flag any structural and building issues with the property – which could cost thousands to fix if the problems are serious.

The house is just minutes away from the sea and Asda and Morrisons would be your nearest supermarkets.

Hartlepool is just over a half hour drive to nearby Sunderland and around a 50 minute drive to Newcastle.

You could make The Nursey Inn your go-to local – which celebrated Christmas Day in MAY this year after having to scrap last year’s festive celebrations due to Covid.

Pub manager Deborah Humerston decorated the boozer with a christmas tree, snowman statue and fairy lights to celebrate the fake “big day”.

What are the different types of home survey?

It’s a good idea to get a detailed inspection into the condition of a property – especially if it needs of a bit of work.

A survey will highlight any major repair work you need to do to the house to make it safe to live in.

It can also help you decide whether or not you’re paying the right amount for your home.

The reports are carried out by qualified surveyors and costs vary from company to company.

There are also different types of surveys depending on the depth of the report that you want and your budget, according to Homeowners Alliance.

A condition report, costing £300 or more, will provide you with a summary of defects and possible risks identified with the property, but won’t give you any advice or valuations about the house.

A HomeBuyers report, costing £450 or more, will provide you with a condition report as well as a valuation and an insurance reinstatement value – which is an estimate of how much you’ll receive if the building were to burn down.

A Home Condition survey, costing £400 to £900, also includes information on broadband speeds, a damp assessment and boundary issues to consider.

While the most expensive – a Building survey – will cost £500 or more depending on how big the property is.

These are extensive reports where the surveyor will go into places such as the attic, check behind walls and look between floors and above ceilings to check whether there are any defects or work that needs to be done.

It will also provide advice on how much it will cost to do the repairs – and what could happen if you don’t fix them.
